National Laboratory Data on Glucose and Uric Acid Levels and on Exposure to Infectious Diseases (1982)

The prevalence of diabetes in the Philippines has been reported to be high, but there is little data on its prevalence in the different health regions. One cannot help but consider the predicament of diabetics in the far-flung areas where there are limited facilities for regular check-up of their blood levels to correlate with their therapy. It is also quite common to hear of a number of Filipinos with supposedly high uric acid levels without any signs of gout. There is little information on the prevalence of uric acid levels or guides for management. A number of clinicians especially those in the peripheral areas are utilizing serological tests to help in the diagnosis of certain diseases like Widal and Weil-Felix reactions for chronic fevers. The baseline data on the responses to the different reactions for chronic fevers. The baseline data on the responses to the different antigens would be great help in interpreting results especially so when such results vary with the procedure of the test used (slide or tube test, macroagglutimation or ELISA). It is in search for a clarification confirmation of these observation that this study was conceived and implemented.
