Video Tape System for Ion Images for Digital Acquisition and Processing.

A video recorder, time base corrector, and video animation system have been interfaced with a microscopic image digital acquisition system (MIDAS) to provide continuous recording of ion images generated by an ion microscope. The new system permits rapid, large volume data storage and allows the user to record an entire imaging session with no loss of data. Off-line, specific frames of video may be recalled and digitized for subsequent processing and analysis. These additional capabilities allow detailed analysis of imaging phenomena that are too short-lived for the old system to record as well as provide greater accuracy and precision for imaging experiments that generate voluminous data. The system may be operated to generate linear response, or analogue signal processing controls may be enabled to selectively enhance low signal levels.
