Solvent Desorption of Soman and Mustard from Adsorbent Packed Minitubes

Solvent desorption was shown to be an excellent technique for the quantitative recovery of soman and mustard from minitubes packed with a variety of solid adsorbents. A good correlation was established between the results obtained at DRES and the published data from other countries. Solvent desorption was applied to the analysis of a water sample, which contained hydrolysis products of mustard. This approach resulted in the identification of seven compounds. Two of these, thiodiglycol and bis(2-hydroxyethylthio)ethyl)ether, comprised a large percentage of the sample and were not detected by hexane extraction.
