Negative Ion Chemistry of Triflic Anhydride in the Gas Phase and the Electron Affinity of CF3SO3

Triflic anhydride, (CF3SO2)2O, has been reacted with a series of negative ions in the gas phase at 353 K. This species yields CF2SO3 rapidly with O2-, NO3, NO3, PO3, and HSO4-, It reacts slowly with NO3-, (HNO3) and not at all with WF6-. These results show that the electron affinity of CF3SO3 exceeds 4.9 + or - 0.3 eV and is probably less than 6.0 eV. Keywords: Charge transfer, Ion neutral reactions, Rates, Constants, Anhydrides.
