Security Assistance in the Modernization of the People's Liberation Army: A Case Study

摘要

This study concludes that increased interactions between the United States (US) and the People's Republic of China (PRC) will be beneficial for both countries and for global political stability. An examination of current security assistance programs between the countries will enable us to enhance the success of future projects. This thesis reviews briefly the historical background of relations between the PRC and the world in general and specifically between the PRC and the US. After summarizing the basic goals of general security assistance programs this thesis examines the arguments for and against these programs. It provides a summary of the People's Liberation Army (PLA) modernization program with a focus on the capabilities of the PRC aerospace industrial base. Finally, this work provides a technical analysis of the PEACE PEARL foreign military sales program with a political analysis of the potential for future programs between the US and the PRC. Theses.
