In-situ Infrared Spectroscopy of Thin Films and Liquids on Solid Surfaces

In-Situ molecular vibrational spectra of thin films and liquids and their interactions with solid surfaces are being measured with a newly constructed tunable diode laser infrared spectrometer. The general techniques of infrared reflection absorption spectroscopy are employed using polarization modulation to reduce the technique to a single beam, single pass method. A discussion of the current and potential uses of the instrument is presented as well as results for some systems currently under study, primarily naturally oxidized aluminum in the presence of pyridine and aluminum with thin anodically deposited layers.
