Questions and inconsistencies in published data concerning productions of such trace gases as Nitric Oxide, Nitrous Oxide and Ozone in an electrically disturbed earth's atmosphere are discussed. Laboratory experiments were undertaken to confirm earlier Cal. Tech. work that Nitrous oxide and Ozone are produced by corona discharges rather than by the heating of air in the lightning flash channels. Nitric Oxide (NO) is produced both in the corona discharge and the heated channel. The yields were observed to agree reasonably well with the numerical simulations previously carried out by the authors. Reprints. (aw)
