Analysis of the Token Ring Protocol as Specified in ANSI/IEEE Standard 802.5-1985

摘要

This thesis discusses the formal specification techniques for communication protocols and the ANSI/IEEE Standard 802.5 Token Ring Access Method and Physical Layer Specification. Background information on formal protocol specification and a review of the targeted standard are provided. The ambiguities that were found with the standard and solutions to some of those are presented. The study concludes that there is a growing need to find methods which will provide correct, clear and unambiguous methods for the specification and analysis of communication protocols and standards.
