摘要

MoCl4(thf)2 has been stoichiometrically reduced with SnCI2 to form MoCl3(thf)3with concomitant formation of SnCl4(thf)2. In an alternative procedure, MoCl5 reacted directly with diphenylsilane according to the equation below to give high yields of either MoCl4(thf)2 or MoC13(thf)3, depending on the reaction stoichiometry, in a single step, high yield (>85%) synthesis. MoC15 + xPh2SiH2 yields MoCl5-x(thf)1+x + xPh2SiHCI + x/2H2 (x = 1 or 2) These methods avoid the possibility of over reduction that is common when metals (such as Sn or Zn) are used in heterogeneous reactions.
