The experiments were carried out on the effect of salinity on the growth of Cryptomeria japonica. Sample trees were grown in culture medium containing salinity (sea water) at different concentrations up to 0.22 as chlorine. The results are summarized as follows: 1. Plant height, fresh weight, and dry weight were reduced slightly by salinity concentration of 0.14 as chlorine. 2. The growth of Cryptomeria japonica were retarded by salinity concentration of 0.18 as chlorine. In the case of 0.22 almost all trees died. 3. General symptoms of salinity injury in Cryptomeria japonica were tip burn of lower twigs and stunted growth. 4. The content of Cl and Na in leaves and twigs increased linearly with increasing concentration of chlorine in the culture medium. Also the content of N and Mg increased slightly. 5. But the content of K and P in leaves and twigs decreased by salinity conditions.
