This paper examines the definition and cataloging of traditional agricultural landscapes (PAT) in Italy. It consists of six major sections: section 2 outlines the conceptual approach used to analyse the agricultural landscape. Sections 3 and 4 describe the concept of traditional landscapes, the co-evolutionary relationships between economic choices and changes in the agricultural landscape. It then describes the model of interpretation and analytical dimensions identified for the analysis of PAT. Section 6 is a reflection on the implications of the theoretical framework in terms of policies for the planning and land management and analysis of the relationship between urban and rural areas. Finally, some considerations are offered in the summary.
