The American Society for Photogrammetry and Remote Sensing (ASPRS) conducted a survey of the geospatial user and provider communities for the purpose of estimating the benefits of moderate resolution imagery (spatial resolution between 5 and 120 m). The survey was initiated on 5 July 2006 and closed on 9 September 2006. Specific objectives of the survey were to: estimate the societal benefits of US moderate resolution data; (ii) better understand current operational and research uses of moderate resolution data; and (iii) identify user requirements in moderate resolution technology and data policy. Responses from 1295 users and producers of geospatial data and information were analysed. A summary of the characteristics of the survey respondents and their opinions concerning the technical and institutional attributes of moderate resolution satellite imagery and data policy are given. Estimations of the economic value of moderate resolution imagery as well as the respondents opinions concerning the impact of not having moderate resolution satellite imagery in the future are discussed..
