Ovicidal effects of some chitin inhibitors on the eggs of Corcyra cephalonica Stn. (Galeridae: Lepidoptera)

A study was conducted in a laboratory to record the effects of four benzophenylureas, viz., Triflumuron, Diflubenzuron, Flufenoxuron and Teflubenzuron on 1-, 2- and 4-day-old eggs of Corcyra cephalonica Stn. at 100, 200, 400, 600 and 800 ppm. Teflubenzuron exhibited the strongest ovicidal action and totally inhibited the development of eggs of all age-groups at 400, 600 and 800 ppm. A flat dose-response relationship was established using concentration, toxicity, age and mortality as effective parameters. The eggs died mostly in the late embryonic stage (black head stage) - just before hatching as a result of interruption in the process of chitin synthesis.
