EU agreement on Energy Efficiency Directive

The European Union (EU) reached agreement last month on the EU's first energy efficiency law. Under the Energy Efficiency Directive, member states will be allowed to set their own targets for energy efficiency, instead of the original plan for a mandatory EU-wide target of 20% improvements in efficiency. The result is likely to be a smaller improvement of 17%.
