摘要

The use of a Health Assessment Index (HAI) developed in the USA, supplemented by a study of endo- and ecto-parasites in several South African fish species, has produced a reliable and inexpensive method of monitoring and quantifying water pollution. The study, commissioned by the Rand Water Board, was carried out initially on the Oliphants River in the Kruger National Park. The accuracy of the results was confirmed recently in studies at two sites on the Vaal River.
