Gas contracts in the pipeline for Indonesia

Indonesia has awarded a long awaited gas transmission pipeline contract to transport gas from eastern Kalimantan to Java,along with a separate contract to own and operate the Trans-Java gas transmission pipeline,creating two new gas transmission companies in the process,writes David Hayes.The contract awards have coincided with public comments by Energy and Mineral Resources Minister Purnomo Yusgiantoro that Indonesia may not extend contracts to supply 12mn t/y LNG to Japan from the PT Badak LNG plant in East Kalimantan(Bongtang)after existing contracts expire in 2010,so the gas can instead be piped to Java to meeting growing domestic energy demand.
