Nigeria is the 'N' in MINT, the latest acronym for high performers conceived by the international financial community. In theory, Mexico, Indonesia, Nigeria and Turkey (MINT) display similar demographics to propel their respective economies into superpowers within 20 years. However, there are caveats in the assumptions. In Nigeria's case, the long-standing legacies of corruption and economic mismanagement need resolving. Despite this, the architect of the BRIC (Brazil, Russia, India, China) group of countries in 2001, the former head of Goldman Sachs Asset Management, believes that Nigeria could overtake South Africa as Africa's top economy.
