Field efficacy of Profiler~R, a fluopicolide and fosetyl-Al fungicide combination for the control of grape downy mildew (Plasmopara viticola)

Profiler~R is a new fungicide developed by Bayer CropScience for the control of grape downy mildew (Plasmopara viticola), combining fluopicolide, a fungicide with a new mode of action, and fosetyl-Al, a well-known anti-fungal compound. Fluopicolide is active at low dose rates against all oomycete diseases and does not show cross resistance with any commercial fungicide. Profiler, a WG formulation containing 44.4 g fluopicolide and 667 g fosetyl-Al per kg will be recommended at 2.25 to 3 kg/ha for the systemic segment of grape downy mildew fungicides; 12-14 day spray intervals, maximum of 3 applications from flowering period up to bunch closure. From the trial results obtained during five years of testing in vineyards (France, Italy, Germany, Spain, Portugal), applied alone all the season or three times around the grape flowering period at 2.25-3 kg/ha, Profiler has demonstrated its excellent efficacy to protect leaves and bunches against downy mildew, even when applied at 14 day spray intervals, even better than the standard Mikal Flash "(4 kg/ha). For good anti-resistance management, only a maximum of three applications of fluopicolide will be recommended per season.
