Kuwait plans new 20-year upstream drive

KUWAIT is devising a new upstream oil and gas strategy to inject momentum into its faltering energy expansion plans. Strategy 2030 updates the existing 2020 plan, committing to the same 4m barrels a day (b/d) crude production target, but delaying this goal until 2030. Kuwait Oil Company (KOC), the state-owned upstream group, raised capacity to 2.85m b/d in 2009. Including Kuwait's share of the divided Neutral Zone, shared with Saudi Arabia, estimated at 280,000 b/d, raises the country's capacity to 3.15m b/d - giving it a spare production buffer of nearly lm b/d. Production, at present, amounts to an estimated 2.25m b/d.
