Zanganeh revives capacity targets

Iran’s oil minister Bijan Namdar Zanganeh has set out ambitious plans to boost crude production capacity to 5.7mn b/d by 2018,but realising them will depend on attracting foreign investment if sanctions are lifted. US and EU sanctions imposed in January 2012 have eroded Iran’s crude capacity to about 3.4mn b/d from just under 4mn b/d.State-owned oil firm NIOC plans to invest around$19bn in the Iranian calendar year to March 2015,if oil prices and export volumes remain unchanged.A further $4bn could become available if NIOC gains a windfall from higher oil prices or an increase in exports.
