Gazprom dismisses anti-monopoly claims

Russian state-controlled Gazprom this week rejected allegations that it has broken EU competition rules after the European Commission opened an anti- monopoly investigation into the firm. The company said on 5 September that it had not received any official noti- fication of the probe, which the commis- sion launched over concerns that Gazprom might be hindering competi- tion in the central and eastern European gas markets. “The start of the formal stage of the investigation does not mean finding Gazprom guilty of some kind of violation of the anti-monopoly legisla- tion of the EU,” Gazprom says.
