A growing corruption scandal at statecontrolled oil firm Petrobras could tarnish the reputation of incumbent Dilma Rousseff in Brazil’s presidential race, as well as that of the dark-horse frontrunner. Former Petrobras downstream director Paulo Roberto Costa agreed a plea deal with prosecutors and revealed a number of high-ranking politicians allegedly involved in corruption. Costa was first arrested in March on allegations of money laundering. He was re-arrested in June on claims that he had around $20mn in Swiss bank accounts. Two congressional committees are investigating multiple allegations of corruption at Petrobras (WPA, 15 August, p1).
