EU gas demand may never recover

Europe’s gas demand will never top prefinancial crisis levels — and this is likely to doom new infrastructure investment over the coming years, EU Agency for the Co-operation of Energy Regulators (Acer) vice-chairman Walter Boltz says. “There are many good reasons to see that gas demand will continue to decline unless something rather radical happens,” he says. Boltz chaired a stakeholder meeting organised by Acer on the single European gas market on 8 October.
