Oklahoma areas draw growing interest

Two shale areas in Oklahoma — Scoop and Stack — are generating increasing interest, with producers seeking new acreage to expand production as opportunities in the more established basins dwindle. Scoop and Stack are in the early stages of productivity gains, and offer greater scope for boosting output than, for example, the Delaware basin and Eagle Ford formation in Texas and North Dakota’s Bakken formation, where development is more advanced, UK bank Barclays says. The opportunities for growth are attracting companies including US independents Marathon Oil, Devon Energy, Continental Resources and Newfield Exploration, which are setting aside more of their sharply reduced capital for these areas.
