Winning of the accompanying bed of the 2~(nd) Lusatian seam horizon in the Welzow-Sud opencast mine under difficult geo-technical and technological conditions

The 12 m thick 2nd Lusatian lignite seam and besides also it's accompanying bed are mined in the Welzow-Sud opencast mine. The seam of the accompanying bed is 6 m to 8 m below the floor of the main seam and separated from it by an aquifer. The thickness of this accompanying bed is between 1 m to 4m. It can be mined economically from a thickness of 2.5 m on. For this reason, it is extracted in deep-cut over a length of 2 km only in the northern bench section (see Figure 1). There is used a bucket chain excavator ERs 710 in conection with a belt wagon BRs 1600 for direct dumping of the intercalation, consisting of the floor silt material of the seam and the sand material of the following aquifer, to the predump. The mined coal of the accompanying bed is directly charged to the coal belt conveyor.
