With any industry, particularly one growing as quickly as the clean energy sector here in Massachusetts, it is vital that businesses have access to a skilled, well-educated workforce. In Massachusetts, our state government, through agencies like the Massachusetts Clean Energy Center (MassCEC), works directly with schools, nonprofit groups, and businesses to develop clean energy job training programs to make sure growing companies have access to the workers they need to expand and flourish. As a resultof the Commonwealths efforts, clean energy jobs have been increasing, and there are now nearly 80,000 Massachusetts clean energy workers and over 5,000 clean energy firms operating in Massachusetts1 (see Figure 1).Stemming from the states unparalleled access to financial and intellectual capital, some of the largest gains in employment came from early-stage clean energy innovation firms entering the market. Engineering and research jobs grew by 32.4 percent from 2012 to 2013. Manufacturing and assembly jobs rose in 2013 as well, by an impressive 20.6 percent.
