Pain Management of Chronic Lateral Epicondylitis: Emerging New Therapeutic Options

I read with great interest the recent article by Gene et al. in a recent issue of your esteemed journal [1]. The article is highly thought provoking. Interestingly, the past few years have seen the emergence of a number of new therapeutic options that are increasingly proving to be highly effective in the management of chronic lateral epicondylitis.For instance, topical glyceryl trinitrate has recently been shown to be highly effective in alleviating the symptoms of lateral epicondylitis [2]. The symptoms are usually mitigated for a period of 6 months. Recently, botulinum toxin injections have also been effectively used in treating chronic lateral epicondylitis [3]. Platelet-rich plasma injection under ultrasound guidance is another recent development [4]. The injections result in significant improvement in the pain visual analog scale.
