Minutes of the Business Meeting of the American Pancreatic Association Friday, November 2, 2007, Chicago, Illinois

The annual business meeting of the American Pancreatic Association was called to order by President Raul Urrutia at 10:30 a.m.The minutes of the 2006 business meeting were distributed to those in attendance for review. The minutes were approved by unanimous voice vote.Dr Urrutia focused on describing 2 possible models for the future of the APA. One model, which is the one the APA has developed and adopted for 30 years, has as a deliverable organizing an excellent annual meeting. The second model, which Dr Urrutia advocated, extends the responsibilities of the APA to both our constituency and our community. As an example, using the latter model will include ongoing fund raising, improving our national presence and respectability as a society for change in funding pancreatic diseases, research fellowships, and other similarly important issues. He motioned for a strategic plan that will define the preference of each APA member for either model.
