Indium-Catalyzed Friedel Crafts Acylation Using Esters as Acylating Reagents

Herein, the authors describe theuse of aryl- and alkylcarboxylic acid esters as acy-lating reagents in Friedel-Crafts reactions cata-lyzed by indium tribromide and using dimethyl-chlorosilane as saponifying reagent. The syntheticusefulness of this approach is demonstrated in theshort synthesis of a salviasperanol intermediate.
