A new room temperature metallic modification of the well known alpha-(ET)_2[KHg(SCN)_4] salt has been prepared by electrochemical oxidation of ET. Its crystal and electronic structure as well as the conducting properties have been examined. The salt has a layered structure like the delta-(ET)_2[KHg(SCN)_4] phase.
