Less than six years ago, the mobile app industry didn't exist. Today, the Apple store boasts more than 800,000 apps. Google Play is expected to pass the 1 million mark by the end of this year. Even though games have claimed the number one spot in usage (43%), farmers are breaking the mold by demanding more from their smartphones and tablets. "The biggest question I hear from farmers is, 'How do I turn this overpriced, oversized video game into a useful tool?'" says Jay Yates, Extension agricultural economics, Texas A&M University.
