In developing new processes and reconstructing existing equipment, there is a need to create mathematical models of the components of the process [1-4]. In the present work, we develop a system for predicting the rolling temperature of the metal. This information may then be used to design water-cooling systems for rolling mills. Various thermal aspects of rolling may be considered: a) metal leaves the continuous-casting machine; b) the cold slab is supplied from the billet store to a furnace for heating; c) before rolling, the surface scale is removed from the billet by hydraulic washing; d) the scale is removed directly in the working cell; e) intermediate heating of the metal in a pass-through furnace is employed; f) the hot steel is sent to an accelerated cooling unit after rolling or after warming in the heat-treatment furnace; g) the metal is cooled by water before being wound into rolls; h) the metal is washed with water after etching.
