The invention relates to a method of determining the included angle of a narrow welding bevel. According to the invention, a mathematical model of the heat input of the welding torch is defined in order to optimise the included angle of a narrow welding bevel comprising closely-positioned walls (4) belonging to first and second parts (2). The aforementioned model imposes thermal loading (16) on the weld pool and thermal loading (18) on the walls (4) of the bevel, e.g. a volume source (16) which is injected into the weld pool (7) and to which a thermal loading (18) is added, which takes account of the bevel confinement effects.
