Tooling association changes name, takes on China

Frustrated with China's currency manipulation and lobbying efforts of national manufacturing associations, the 74-year-old Michigan Tooling Association voted on Dec. 21, 2006, to change its name to the Tooling, Manufacturing & Technologies Association (TMTA). TMTA changed its name to eliminate geographic boundaries and expanded its name to include any domestic manufacturer or technology company affected by unfair offshore competition. The name change comes after several manufacturing companies expressed frustration with the National Association of Manufacturers (NAM). NAM's executive committee overturned a previously approved NAM resolution to support legislation to confront China over its currency manipulation, the Hunter-Ryan bill. The bill failed to become a law.
