Micro tubular SOFCs have successfully demonstrated their advantages over conventional (planar) SOFCs. The advantages are high thermal stability during rapid heat cycling and high electrode area per volume, which enable micro SOFC systems applicable to portable devices and auxiliary power units for automobile. In this study, fabrication and integration of micro tubular SOFCs under 1 mm diameter was discussed. So far, the cell performance of a 1 cm long tubular single cell with diameter 0.8 mm, where the cathode covers 5 mm of the tube, was shown to be over 0.12 W at 550℃ operating temperature. To bundle the micro tubular cells, a cube shaped SOFC bundle design was considered and fabricated, which consists of micro tubular SOFCs and cathode matrices with high porosity and reasonable electrical conductivity. In addition, a calculation model of the cube bundle to estimate current collecting loss was discussed.
