Without any doubt, the Frie-del-Crafts alkyla-tion is one of the most important C-C bond forming processes that can also be performed in an asymmetric manner. However, prior to 2000, only a few sporadic results were reported in this field. Roughly ten years ago, the catalytic application of chiral copper complexes in C-C bond formation processes was the beginning of major developments in this field and it appears to be a Danish specialty.
