The Amarillo (Texas, USA) Economic Development Corp. certainly corroborated that behavioral pattern last year. In September, the group sent out checks totaling a cool 8 billion dollars-8 million dollars to each of the 1,000 largest and fastest-growing U.S. companies. (The incentives are drawn from the one-half-cent economic development sales tax approved by Amarillo voters in 1990, which raises some 8 million dollars annually.)
