The physicomechanical and thermal properties of the ceramic body batch containing cement kiln by-pass dust waste instead of limestone were investigated to throwlight on the suitability of using this waste material as a source of CaO in ceramic industry. The results showed that the fired body batch containing cement dust achieved better densification as well as mechanical properties than those of the base batch. The maturing temperature and linear thermal expansion coefficient of the fired batch containing cement dust are lower than those of the base batch, but the firing shrinkage was slightly affected. The XRD analysis revealed that the constituents of cement dust react with the surrounding ingredients during firing to form new silicate phases and crystals related to the relatively higher physicomechanical propertiesof the fired article.s
