That question which pops up all the time - "if you had 50 million dollars what would you spend it on?" - reflects the dilemma facing today's shipping investors at the moment. With truckloads of money chugging round the market, there are not many bargains and deciding what to do with it is a real problem. You could sell up, but 1990s investors who did that found that shipping's not the only risky investment. A good starting-point is to see where investors are putting their money today. Our graph, showing the order book as a percentage of the fleet, suggests that investors have very different views about the different segments.
