rhere have been revolutionary changes in techniques and materials since Edward H. Angle first introduced fixed orthodontic appliances in the early 1900s. Because of these technological advances, orthodontics has come a long way during its first century.In recent years, there has been a significantly increased demand for orthodontic treatment from both adolescents and adults. In addition, the patients' and doctors' expectations for treatment outcomes continue to rise every day. Practitioners aim to deliver the best orthodontic treatment possible with the most functional, esthetic, and stable results. However, despite the advances in orthodontic materials and techniques, the success of orthodontic treatment is jeopardized by the risk of development of white spot lesions around the brackets. Unfortunately, the formation of white spot lesions still remains a common complication during treatment in patients with poor oral hygiene.
