Pakistan New autonomous body will regulate drugs, devices

The decks have been cleared for establishing a new autonomous body in Pakistan to regulate the manufacture and sale of drugs, medical devices and other therapeutic products. The bill for establishing the Drug Regulatory Authority of Pakistan (DRAP) was signed into law on 12 November and its provisions have come into effect immediately; the legislation was cleared by the National Assembly in October this year The new Islamabad-based body will be responsible for the effective co-ordination and enforcement of the Drugs Act, 1976 and for ensuring harmony in inter-provincial trade and commerce of therapeutic goods.
