摘要

While the acute treatment phase is necessary, it is not sufficient to promote healing from cancer. Cancer survivors report poorer health than the general population, lower quality of life, more lost productivity, and more health limitations. In addition to disease recurrence, survivors also are also at greater risk for developing new cancers than the general population. Over two thirds of these survivors also commonly experience chronic comorbid conditions such as diabetes and heart disease, and almost one third have two or more of these conditions.1 As oncology nurses, we are aware of the significant health toll that cancer brings and that few survivors are unscathed from their disease and treatment.
