Canary Islands' seabass and seabream success

Mike Urch reports from Gran Canaria and Tenerife in the Canary Islands on how production of farmed seabass and seabream for export to mainland Spain and other countries is increasing. Production of farmed seabass or lubina (Dicentrarchus labrax) and gilthead seabream or dorada (Spams aurata) in the Canary Islands, has increased tenfold during the past five years to reach 10,000 tonnes. The total is set to increase to 30,000 tonnes in two years, according to Guillermo Rodriguez Boue, director generalof ACUIMARCA, one of the two trading companies owned by the islands' farmers.
