摘要

With the intelligence-gathering capabilities of F-35 Joint Strike Fighters and P-8A Poseidon maritime patrol planes on its horizon, and with a growing base of airplane and ship sensors in place, Australia is starting to examine the kind of network it will need to harness its burgeoning ISR capability. Australia's leaders are becoming increasingly conscious of the need for surveillance of their territory, especially the northern maritime border, which is routinely penetrated by boats filled with would-be immigrants. The Australian Defence Force has a plan -- called Joint Project 2096 -- in which it has sketched out a way to tie together data from those collectors. The system envisioned would cost between dollar100 million and dollar300 million, and would link the intelligence capabilities of Australia's Army, Navy and Air Force, as well as special operations.
