Strike called off at Wesfarmers' Curragh coal mine

Unions have cancelled a week of planned strikes at Wesfarmers' Curragh coking coal mine in Queensland, set to start Monday, after the Australian company reached a deal on a new workplace agreement for a third of the mine's workforce, Wesfarmers said in an emailed statement Monday. Around 300 employees belonging to a single bargaining unit at the company's Curragh mine site, in the Bowen Basin, have refused to do unscheduled overtime work since June 5, and a majority of them earlier voted for indus-trial action including work stoppages on May 29.
