Treatment of progressive necrosis of the lunate bone (Kienbock disease) after unsuccessful radial osteotomy.

We report the treatment of three patients with stage 3 Kienbock disease that had advanced after radial shortening (n = 2) or lateral wedge osteotomy (n = 1). We shortened the capitate and fused the capitate and hamate, and applied a vascularised bone graft taken from the distal dorsal radius to the lunate. This was successful in all three patients.
