One cold winter, high in the mountains, Viktor Schauberger watched a trout move with lightning speed upstream against the force of the torrent. How on earth, he reasoned, could such a small being generate so much power? It was an observation that hadfar-reaching ramifications for his career as a scientist and inventor.Viktor Schauberger was born in Austria in 1885. His family had been forest wardens for several generations, and Viktor wanted little more than to be the same. However, underpinning his considerable intellect was an extraordinary talent for observation, and a keen intuition. Having seen how academe affected his brothers, he refused to attend university. He was determined to see nature through his own eyes. As he wrote: people are losing their individuality, their ability to see things as they really areand thereby their connection with nature'.As he fulfilled his desire to become a forest warden, he observed the natural phenomenon of the wilderness in the vast, untouched Austrian forests and mountains. Water was his biggest fascination and his career with it caused him to be dubbed the Water Wizard.
