Pipelines have been around for a very long time, but major international pipeline construction is very much a post World-War II feature. Prior to the war, the majority of pipelines, such as those laid in Iran, Saudi Arabia, and in the Far East, were constructed by the oil companies' own 'in house' construction arms.
