Performance Monitoring Maximises Production Uptime and Asset Availability

Helge Ruistuen, a veteran upstream engineer, started his career with Norsk Hydro and Saga Petroleum. Later, as part of the start-up Production Technology Integrated, Ruistuen worked with the design of software systems to help monitor and control subsea production. When Statoil decided to take an engineering approach to dealing with the sand production causing wear and tear on the well chokes at GuUfaks, Ruistuen's team designed and qualified an on-line monitoring system - an early foray into production-oriented condition monitoring - to address the problem.
