Performance of different wheat genotypes under environmental conditions of Peshawar Valley.

A study was conducted in Peshawar, Pakistan, during 2000-01, involving 16 lines (V1P5, V1P6, V1P8, V1P13, V1P14, V1P15, V1P17, V1P2, V2P5, V2P7, V2P8, V2P19, V2P20, V3P13, V3P14 and V3P15) and 4 cultivars (Pirsabak-85, Khattakwal, Tatara and Bakhtawar-92) of wheat. The maximum days to 50% heading (124.75) was recorded from V2P8, while the minimum (113.50) was observed in Bakhtawar-92. The maximum flag leaf area of 26.43 cm2 was found in V2P7, while the minimum of 15.70 cm2 was recorded in V3P15. The maximum plant height of 110.50 cm was found in V1P17, while the minimum of 70.00 cm was recorded in Bakhtawar 92. The greatest spike length of 9.83 cm was found in V2P5 and the minimum of 6.78 cm in Bakhtawar-92. The highest number of tillers per plant (4.75) was found in K-Wal, while the minimum of 3.05 was found in V1P8. The highest number of spikelets per spike (9.85) was recorded in V2P13, V1P13 and V1P5, while the minimum of 12.15 was recorded in V2P19. The highest grain yield of 750 kg/ha was found in Pirsabak-85 and V1P6, while V2P8 recorded the minimum grain yield of 393.8 kg/ha.
